Upington Airport was established with the commercial purpose and opened to the general public in 1968 which was named as Pierre van Ryneveld Airport at that time. This airport is equipped with iron fire station, and administrative offices to manage airport effectively. All the constructive activities were done till 1996. It is one of the exclusive airports having the capacity to hold about 40000 passengers but it serves about 25000 passengers every year. Most of the European countries are the major markets of South African grapes as well as other agriculture products and Upington Airport in the major point to export those products. There are some regular flights inbetween Upington and Cape Town. This airport provides various facilities to the visitors such as- car rental facilities, parking facilities to the general public, conference room and required information regarding flights and many more from information desks. There is one terminal building which comprises arrival and departure hall which serves visitors to access the desired destinations of South Africa. The airport provides many flying services from different departments like- weather information, fire and rescue, best lighting in the runway, airbus parking, refueling as well as apron services. |
